Chi Siamo About

Supporting patients with chronic skin lesions

SIMITU (from the Latin simitu, meaning "Together") is a Voluntary Association (ODV), officially registered with RUNTS (National Single Register of the Third Sector). Founded in January 2013, it represents citizens, patients, family members, caregivers, and healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, podiatrists, wound care specialists) united by a single great goal: the prevention, treatment, and protection of the rights of people suffering from chronic skin lesions (ulcers, pressure sores, hard-to-heal wounds).

In Italy, it is estimated that over 2 million people suffer from chronic skin lesions, a number expected to increase with rising life expectancy. ISTAT estimates that the population over 80 (the age group most at risk of healthcare) will increase from 2 million to 7.7 million in 2030.

Missions Missions

Our Mission and the Fight for Essential Levels of Assistance (LEA)

Today, the failure to include chronic skin lesions in the LEA (Essential Levels of Care) forces patients and their families to bear the full cost of medical supplies and advanced dressings, which are often unsustainable. SIMITU operates on three main fronts:
